Reaching out to greater number of farmers is a continous challenge in Africa. The Volta region is testing the use of farmer-to-farmer video production and dissemination within their existing program on lowland valley development. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Department of Extension in Hohoe, Jasikan and Kadjebi is leading the process in partnership with AfricaRice, CSRI/Crops Research Institute and Digital Green.
A training on video production and dissemination was conducted on 23-26 January 2014 in Hohoe, facilitated by Digital Green. There were 45 participants from the three districts, mainly farmer leaders, extension agents, district directors of MOFA, CRI, Digital Green and AfricaRice.
The team will be producing videos locally and organizing the video screening within their own districts. They will be selecting the best agricultural practices to improve rice productivity in the lowland valleys of the region.
